Ginger has very favorable effects on the gastrointestinal system and the stomach. Add 1 1/2 teaspoons ginger root to 1 cup water; simmer for ten minutes. Drink as needed.

Brown rice. Plain or with a little sweetening, rice can help relieve discomfort. Rice is a complex carbohydrate and is a bland food, which is less likely to increase acidity or relax the sphincter muscle

Cream of tartar. Mix 1/2 teaspoon and add 1/2 teaspoon baking soda in a glass of water. Take 1 teaspoon of the solution as needed to produce an acid neutralizer.

Baking soda or sodium bicarbonate. It is used in an aqueous solution as an antacid taken orally to treat acid indigestion and heartburn. Take 1/2 teaspoon in 1/2 glass water. Check the antacid use information on the box before using this remedy, however.

But if you’re on a salt-restricted diet, do not use baking soda. It’s rich with sodium. And do not use it if you’re experiencing nausea, stomachache, gas, cramps, or stomach distention from overeating.

Apple cider vinegar. Take a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar diluted in half a glass of water, and it can also be added with honey. It effectively stops heartburn.

Aloe Vera juice. It can also be used to soothe an irritated esophagus. It is used internally for healing and soothing of digestive conditions such as heartburn and irritable bowel syndrome.

Apples. They cool the burn of stomach acid. Eat them fresh, with the skin still on, or cook them for desserts. Compared to many other fruits and vegetables, apples contain relatively low amounts of Vitamin C as well as several other antioxidant compounds. Highly acidic fruits contribute to worsening of heartburn.

Papaya. The fruit can be eaten straight or can be made into a juice. Drink 1 cup papaya juice combined with 1 teaspoon sugar and 2 pinches cardamom to relieve acid. Its enzyme, papaya, helps in fighting indigestion.
